Species of concern in the Salish Sea
The following list is drawn from a 2016 paper written by Joe Gaydos and Jacqlynn Zier of the SeaDoc Society that discusses the increase in species of concern in the Salish Sea. As of December 1, 2015, there were 125 species at risk in the Salish Sea, more than twice the number of species at risk when the indicator was first established in 2002. The paper was presented at the 2016 Salish Sea Ecosystem Conference, April 13 - April 15, 2016, Vancouver, BC. Read more and download the paper.
The Salish Sea ranges from the Strait of Georgia and Desolation Sound in Canada to the boundaries of Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca. View a map of the Salish Sea watershed.
