The Puget Sound Institute seeks a student intern to assist with production and research at the Encyclopedia of Puget Sound.
 
In particular, the intern will assist the site’s managing editor with the development of the Puget Sound Voices project, a series of audio and/or video interviews with scientists and innovators who have been influential in Puget Sound protection and restoration.
 
Duties include transcription of interviews, gathering of supporting media such as photos and videos, logging and preparation of metadata, uploading content to the website, background research and other duties as assigned. The internship is based out of Tacoma and may involve some local travel and fieldwork.
 
The position requires a commitment of 15-20 hours per week, over the period of June 17 – September 1, 2013. The pay rate is $12/hour.

Required skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Fluency with Microsoft Word and Excel
• Experience editing and optimizing images for the web, and facility with online communication tools such as YouTube
and Flickr
• An interest in environmental or science communications
• A valid driver’s license

Desired skills

• Basic experience gathering and editing a variety of digital media such as audio, video and photos
• Completion of a college level course in journalism or related communications field
• Experience with the Drupal CMS a plus
